Evaluation Activity 8

I will always be preparing myself for the trailer ensuring that i study different camera compositions and make an engaging trailer. Me and my group have decided that we are going to stick with the same genre because it is a new and unique genre that gives us a big boost towards getting a good mark and we feel like it can hit the perfect target audience effectively i now have some background knowledge on on to do science fiction movies and how to plan ahead effectively. Me and my group are now familiar with editing and using different VFX for futuristic effects as we do star our movie in the future but i also see space to improve and i know i can learn a lot more next year.

Mise En Scene: For my mise-en-scene i would like to improve our location because for a trailer you see snips of the whole film, i would like to use a popular location and turn it into a futuristic setting, i'd like to use London because it is popular and would be very interesting to see what we could do to London to make it look more futuristic. I also want to improve the costumes we used because the two characters we used only wore black even our hero which is unexpected. We would also like to use some VFX on the costumes the characters wear to make it look more futuristic and to appeal to the target audience. We will plan well ahead on the costumes and practice until we make our trailer and we know what to do,

Editing: For editing i would like to improve and learn new things for the sci fi genre because i know we can add more effect to create conventions of the genre this will help make my trailer more appealing.

Camera: If we could do our movie again i would choose different camera shots and angles and made them more technical this is because i feel we did not have sufficient amount of a camera shots and use a lot of repeated one. Because of this i will have set targets to use a range of camera shots for the trailer adding more prestige shots.

Sound: There was not much sound in opening 2 minutes so for our trailer i hope we can use sound throughout the trailer to add suspense and to add effectiveness. I want to make our trailer more believable and it will overall help intrigue the audience.

Evaluation Activity 7

Since my preliminary task i have learnt a lot of new things and changes in terms of editing, camera shots and camera angles this is because i am a lot more comfortable and familiar when using equipment and editing on the softwares we used. When making the film i was able to explore new softwares and techniques in more depth i got better with the editing over time but the preliminary task i was editing as a beginner but over time and when it was time to edit the movie i was able to extend my knowledge and i felt ready to edit to perfection. I'm now able to understand how to use a range of and what their effect on the audience is this helped me a lot towards making the movie because it helped me appeal to the specific audience who watch sci fi movies. for example, why establishing the setting was very important to create a euphoria for the audience, i also learnt the effectiveness of shots such as close ups and when to use them and when they are over used. Editing has been a whole new subject to me and i have now learnt many different tols such as how to use VFX and how to use different techniques to me enable match on action our movie compared to the preliminary task shows how different the editing is. When looking back on my preliminary task i can see all the areas were i could of improved for example having longer shots, use of sound and mise en scene but when i look at my movie i can see that i did improve drastically.  

 This camera shot has taught me a lot and has shown me that i can improve for example the camera is shakey because we didn't use a tripod we could improve by using a tripod which is what we did in our movie. We could of also switched shots from a medium shot to close up as this would of made it more effective. We could of also used a different angle maybe a low one looking up to show dominance of this character.

I have learnt a lot since this shot i can see many different ways i could of improved for example we could have chosen a better location as the lighting is not very good and you cannot see the character on screen. There was also a incorrect use of editing and there could of been a fade of black to change scenes as it would of made it more effective and clean. 

Evaluation Activity 6

 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

 We used a simple phones camera, the Samsung Galaxy 6 the camera had better quality than the cameras we were given as it has full HD we attached it to a small tripod and it worked very well but did have a few drawbacks. The tripod being small mean we had to put the stand on a few books or on a high ground and the Samsung did not have 4K HD unlike an iPhone we foudn this hard because we were unable to do different techniques for example fade in fade out we had to do this through editing instead of using camera.The phone was good because it was easy to export the filmed project to a computer and its light and unique photo ability made  things easier for us.

This is the computer we used to do all our editing for the film. We found the PC very fast and not buggy at all this computer is basic but very helpful. We installed three different programmes, the first programme is Photostage we used this to put together our clips and create transitions we found this very easy and useful we never had any problems with the software. The second programme we used was Adobe After Effects, we found this software the best of all because it helped us create a futuristic hyperreal reality and help us o all the sci fi conventions you usually see in a sci fi movie. The last software we used was Cinema 4D we used this to create the spaceship scene it helped us animate a flying spaceship flying past and we just put a space background. We partnered the software with Adobe to create the space background on a green screen. Every single one of these programmes we have used has taught us a lot and may prove to be helpful to know in the future. We learnt how to edit, import and animate different things as we explored new software each one after the next proving to be smarter than the next. It had a huge impact on the genre we chose as we thought it would be difficult to do a sci fi movie but these softwares allowed us to do things beyond what we hoped.

This is the tripod we used it was an extendable tripod which allowed us to make it taller and smaller when we needed to but it did have its problems as it was not as tall as we hoped it would be at times we had to put it on a tall platform because the tripod was not long enough. Where it wasn't tall it made up for it on how easy and useful it was, it allowed us to use our phone to record and we got a selection of different camera shots in the movie. The tripod helped us get different angles we didn't think we could get and the tripod allowed us to do perfect shot reverse shots and 180 degree rules.

Evaluation Activity 4

This person is an example of our target audience. He would most likely enjoy fictional stories and games and would probably watch sc-fi movies and TV shows. The person would be on the young side but not too young so maybe just the teenagers years. They would spend time with friends whilst also having a passion for superheroes and video games. The typical audience would shop at named brand stores like Hollister, Topman and New Look. They would typically listen to calm songs the songs that you can sing along to, it wouldn't just be males, because we have a female antagonist this will attract female viewers so music they would listen is probably fun and upbeat. Their favorite TV programme would be the sci fi channel or FOX because they are typically known for showing superhero TV shows like Arrow and The Flash. Our typical audience would also be in a group of friends who also like the same as he/she does and they would usually go see these types of movies together. 

Evaluation Activity 3

This is our movie production company we chose the name " Infinite M" to suggest a hidden meaning behind it. We wanted to do suggest that we would be doing movies forever hence the infinite and the "M" standing for movies. Our other production is "Horse Motion" we chose this name because had the horse running and we just had to come up with a name. A production company funds the movie so they are the people that give money to the movie to fund for all the equipment and CGI. If we were to actually release our movie we decided we would not go through cinema and we would go through Netflix as a distributor because that would mean we have a definite profit and people can enjoy our movie for free. Netflix would fund our film if we were to go with them.

Evaluation Activity 2

I have compared our hero Victoria with Marvels hero Black Widow. The reason I chose Black Widow is because whilst making this film she reminded me of her at many different times. The similarities are uncanny for example each persons costume as you can see are both black we chose her to wear black because we wanted to subvert from the general stereotype of a hero because you would typically see a hero wearing bright colours. They are both heroes but wear black is the biggest similarity another one is that throughout the 2 minutes Victoria seems very high class and very self centered which immediately reminded us of Black Widow again as throughout the movies shes been in shes seems higher than everyone else and quiet and in this picture she even has her arm crossed. Another similarity is that they are both strong and independent you do not really see black widow having help when defeating bad guys and in the first two minutes we tried to show that Victoria only has this computer A.I to get help from called Dr Clark. Another similarity is both of there roles in the movie, they both play protagonists who try and save the world or in our movies case save multiple words. Although there are many similarities between Black Widow and Victoria there are a few differences for example we are yet to see how Victoria fights because Black Widow fights really well and is highly trained but we do not know how good Victoria is at hand to hand combat so one difference would be there fighting skills. Another difference is that as you can see Black Widow is always prepared and has a utility belt with many different weapons on there whereas Victoria has no weapons at all although she did just crash.

Evaluation Activity 1

In this frame we had flashing white lights to show that her engines are shutting down and that she is crashing. The sound effects work well in the scene because it adds to the effect of her crashing down. This effect was done in Adobe Premier Elements and wasn't to hard to do it because we just carried on switching between white black screens the sound effects were added through a YouTube clip. 

This frame shows perfectly the technological science fiction elements to our movie. We tried to show that she is wearing a technical mask like Iron Man does in the Iron Man movie trilogy. The sound effects in the scene is meant to show warning and danger ahead which is going to build up suspense and make the audience wonder whats going on and what will happen next. To make these effects we used the software Adobe After Effects which was very useful and wasn't very difficult to do and it is very effective because it shows sci fi very well and makes you immediately know your watching a sci fi movie.

This frame shows the setting very well and the font we used for the titles in our movie. We wanted to show the setting before we showed the main character because we wanted the audience to know she had crashed on what looked like a civilized a planet. We also wanted to show the green areas and the trees to add to conventions of a peaceful calm area. The sound effects in the scene have birds chirping to also add to the conventions of a calm environment. We had many different font choices and we decided that this font was the best font to suit our movie. We saw a font from Deadpool another sci-fi film and really liked it so we decided to do a very similar font as it looked clean and felt it suited the tone of our film.

In this frame we were properly introducing our protagonist and we wanted to show that she is badly hurt and has crash landed.The effect on the scene we used is the fuzzy effect where the tree was clear and then it was fuzzy. We also had titles on top of the scene fading in and out. This scene also shows the location because you can see that she is surrounded by trees and in a empty area. This also shows her costume very well because she is wearing all black and has a cape.

This frame shows the technological elements to our movie. It shows it very well because it has alot of detail like showing the danger level, location and distance. There is some smaller detail in this frame as well like the body in left hand corner showing her health and where she is injured and even her heartbeat in the bottom right. We did run into some issues when making the hologram for example tracking it was particularly difficult because we needed it to follow her wrist and she moves her wrist a lot so it was hard to make it follow her.

 In this frame we were trying to show the main character and the hero. We had a female hero to subvert from the common sci-fi hero movies you very rarely see a women as the hero so we thought it would be a good idea. This shot shows her talking to her A.I and we tried to show her as the good hero. In the shot she had just found out what planet she is on and we wanted to show her confusion and show she has no idea where she is.

In this frame we tried to show and effect of our protagonist teleporting  away. We wanted to do this as her last scene to make it tense on where she is going and make the viewers wanting to watch more. We also wanted it to seem like she is trying to always move because she doesn't want the antagonist to find her. The teleport effect was added using after effects and we tried to get Vicky to cover herself with the cape and show this is one of her powers. This was to try make her seem powerful.

This frame is showing a spaceship we wanted to add a spaceship because we wanted to set the scene and tell the audience that this movie isn't just on one planet and that it can be multiple. We put the spaceship on the space background using after effects and it wasn't too difficult to do because we found the spaceship using a YouTube clip and the space background from google images. We wanted to show the spaceship to show that they were both in spaceships and fighting but the villain lost her. 

This frame shows the villain Volto getting angry and smashing a table because he lost her. We nearly didn't add the scene with our villain but we wanted the audience to know who the bad guy is. We also wanted him to seem scary, dark and angry hence being in the dark room and smashing the table. Because we set the scene with the spaceship we wanted to have technical equipment in the scene hence the lights and computer screens. We wanted this as the last scene because we wanted to leave on a cliff hanger showing how mad he is and making the audience feel tense.

Audience Research

For our movie we are doing a Sci-Fi movie with superheroes and supervillians. We researched other Sci-Fi movies who do superheroes vs supervillians and most of the movies had a audience of teenage nerdy boys and rarely girls. This means we expect our movie to attract the audience of teenage nerdy boys and this is why we have made our movie a 12. The movies we researched were from the popular studios DC and Marvel. We researched Captain America Civil War, Iron Man 3, Avengers Age of Ultron, Batman v Superman and The Dark Knight Trilogy.

When we researched Captain America Civil War we noticed it was mainly nerdy teenagers who seem to know a lot about whats happening this would mean that they have most likely read the comics before watching the movie which tells us their nerdy. We noticed the same with Iron Man 3.

When we researched Avengers Age of Ultron we noticed that there was not only teenage boys there but a few teenage girls and even mothers with their son/daughter as this movie was a 12a. This told us that there are sometimes girls watching the movie especially when there is a girl superhero.

When we researched The Dark Knight Trilogy we noticed a lot more teenage girls were coming to see this movie as well as teenage boys. This could be because of the romantic side to these movies as there is some romance in the 3 movies.

What we got from researching these movies is that more teenage girls come to see the movie when there is a girl hero. We wanted to get as many people attracted to our movie as possible so we got our own girl hero to aim at teenage girls and boys. We also knew we were going to get teenage nerdy boys because we have heroes and villains in the movie and this is what usually attracts them to see the movie.

Soundtrack Research

This is the sound we used for institution intro for Horsemotion and Infinite M. We made this through audacity and found it on youtube we just edited it to make it our own. We researched some other institutions like paramount and 20th Century Fox these are two movie institutions that are quite different. 20th Century Fox is quite a loud one whereas Paramount is a silent one, the reason we researched both of this institutions is because we were not sure whether to go for a load one or a quite one but we ended up going with our own thing of just have peaceful music.

We also used other diegetic sound of birds chirping and wing blowing. We added these sounds because we feel this will add to the feel of a peaceful and calm environment. We also wanted the audience to know this is a peaceful area with a peaceful good person we wanted to show that the person they are seeing on screen is the good guy. Later the birds stop chirping and non-diegetic sound starts to play. The music playing is dark and evil we wanted the audience to know that we are about to see the bad guy. We also added dark breathing sounds to connote to the bad guy feel.  

Character Profile - Vicky Stanbridge - Victoria

This was the protagonist in our movie. She was just like the classic heroine bold, courageous and fearless. She is intellectual and a good leader she has the perfect leader for a futuristic space empire and holds hierarchy in the film. The outfit she wear contradicts her personality and force in the movie.

Character Profile - Eduardo Rojas Ruiz - Volto

This is the antagonist in our film we chose Eduardo to play the role of Volto because he has a very bulky build and looks quite menacing. He fit the role very well as we was scary and fearful. He wears a fully black suit with a skull as a mask this shows his power and dark side that he has gained through his experiences. He is known by terror and fear he is known for his intimidating skull mask and his heavy breathing. He is a leader of a brute force army that only follow him through fear.

Institution Research

This is our institution that we made special for our film because we didn't want to copyright any other institution. We made it through paint and we put it in adobe premier element an thats where we added the title. We chose it to be like this because we feel this was like a real institution and it suited a institution very well. When we made it we researched other institutions like Opening Title and Warner Bros and we liked the way they were both animated so we decided to go for a animated look to our institution. We chose the name "Infinite M" because movies are always changing and never end hence the infinite part.

We liked the look of the Warner Bros. logo in front of animated clouds and we wanted to try do something like that but it didn't work out as well as we had hoped. We definitely wanted the animated feel to our institution but we just couldn't get it right with the clouds so we thought we would change it to our own type of animation and our first idea for a title was "City Movies" so we thought we would combine our two ideas and we made the city image you see there and we made the sketch to colour animation which we really liked. Here is our first idea.

 As you can see its very similar to the one we have now but we decided that it didn't really work for us and we decided to change it the version we have now. we didn't like it because the clouds on the black screen didn't look good. We tried many different looks like no black background but the writing didn't work, everything we tried just did not work for us so we decided to scrap the whole thing.

Script

This is our script. We worked hard on the script to get it perfect and we feel like this suits an opening 2 minutes very well. We looked at other opening two minutes scripts from other movies and tried to base it of that.

We compared our script to Avengers script and you can see there quite similar. Our film and the avenger have a few technical elements for example the hologram and the speech at the beginning that sounds computer generated just like ours. We tried to add in some sci fi language like they do saying things like energy surge and tesseract. Because we were doing a science fiction film we were obviously going to compare our scripts to other sci fi scripts and because these other scripts had so much technical elements in the movie we decided we had to add some technical stuff such as our hologram and our AI that talks.

Logo Research

This is the first choice and the one we are most likely going to use. We chose this one because it has a science fiction feel to it and we feel that it suits our film very well. We found this one on the internet on the website cooltext.com.

This is our second choice title it is very unlikely we are to use this title because it does not have a science fiction feel to it but more of a horror theme and we don't want our audience to get confused. We also found this font on the website cooltext.com. There were many reasons why we didn't choose this font straight away when looking at it you would  not guess that the movie is a sci fi movie you would feel this is some sort of horror movie. Another reason is that it looked scruffy and we wanted a clean looking font.

Interview #2 Eduardo Rojas Ruiz

Eduardo will play the antagonist role this is the interview we conducted the questions we asked are specifically for this role. We did the interview on eduardo as he expressed interest in playing a villain. When we did the interview we asked very specific questions to what a actor would be asked on playing a villain and we feel he answered very well and this is why we decided to have him as the villain for our movie.

Interview #1 Vicky Stanbridge

Vicky Stanbridge will play the protagonist role and this the interview we conducted for her and the questions we asked were specifically for this role. The interview we did tried to show that she was perfect for the role and it is why we chose her to play the hero. This interview we conducted had very specific questions for the hero role and we felt that she answered them very well and it is why we chose her to be the main role.

Schedules

9th December
This is our little filming where we only had to film a little 20 second scene. We needed a dark background and we thought that the art dark room was perfect for the shot we needed. We used a black curtain as a background and turned off all the lights part from a flashlight aimed at vicky.

13th December

This was the day we started our first filming session, we decided to use the drama studio as we felt it was the best place we could think of to film a dark scene and add to a spaceship feel to it as there are some technical equipment in there. We shot most of the things we needed there in the editing we did cut a few things but in the end it looked very good. 

17th December

This was the proper day of filming as this is where we would do most of the filming. We went to Ashtead Common and filmed all that we needed to film. We chose ashtead common because of its wooded area and we thought it would be a perfect place to show that our hero is lost and does not know when she is. Whilst we filmed we had to get perfect shots and we had to choose the perfect place in the wooded area. Also when filming we filmed so video diaries.

December Holiday

Throughout the whole holiday me and tom edited the movie on the software adobe after effects and we had to cut some bits and we had to change some things but in the end it turned out very well. After effects allowed us to have all the technical elements you see in the film. We still edit a few things today but theres not much left to do and we uploaded the video on January 16th.
